IT'S NOT SAMHAIN HERE. IT'S BELTANE!

As the world around us fills with pumpkins, witches, skeletons and Halloween celebrations, I wanted to share a little about the Wheel of the Year and why, here in the Southern Hemisphere, we are actually celebrating something quite different.

Halloween has its roots in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced Sow-en), a sacred time marking the end of the harvest, the beginning of winter and the descent into the darker half of the year.

It is traditionally a time of death, remembrance, ancestral connection and honouring the thinning of the veil between the worlds.

And while our friends in the Northern Hemisphere are entering this season of darkness, here in Australia, the Earth is telling a very different story.

We are in spring. 🌿

The days are growing longer, the warmth is returning, flowers are blooming, the birds are nesting and the natural world is bursting with life.

We are moving through Beltane.

Beltane is the seasonal opposite of Samhain. It celebrates fertility, creativity, passion, vitality and the fullness of life returning to the Earth.

It is a time of fire, flowers, weaving, connection and honouring the sacred union of the masculine and feminine energies.

✨ SO WHAT IS THE WHEEL OF THE YEAR?

The Wheel of the Year is a cycle of eight seasonal festivals, drawing from Celtic and other European traditions and celebrated today in many Earth-based spiritual practices.

These festivals honour the changing seasons, the rhythms of nature and the eternal cycles of birth, growth, death and renewal.

Here in the Southern Hemisphere, when we align the Wheel with our seasons, it looks like this:

🌾 Lughnasadh / Lammas - February 1 The first harvest. Gratitude, abundance and the fruits of our labour.

🍂 Mabon - March 20-21 Autumn Equinox. Balance, reflection and preparing for the darker months.

🕯️ Samhain - April 30-May 1 Honouring our ancestors, endings, death and the wisdom of the unseen.

❄️ Yule - June 20-22 Winter Solstice. The longest night, deep rest and the rebirth of the light.

🌱 Imbolc - August 1 The first stirrings of spring. Renewal, purification and new beginnings.

🌷 Ostara - September 22–23 Spring Equinox. Balance, awakening, fertility and growth.

🔥 Beltane - October 31–November 1 The celebration of life, passion, creativity, fertility and the blossoming Earth.

☀️ Litha - December 20–22 Summer Solstice. The longest day, the fullness of light and the abundance of life.

The dates are approximate, and seasonal traditions may also be observed according to local changes in nature.

🌍 WHY DOES THIS MATTER?

For me, walking a spiritual path rooted in the wisdom of the Earth means learning to listen to the land beneath my feet.

Not simply following a calendar inherited from another hemisphere, but noticing what is actually happening around me.

The seasons are not just something we experience outside ourselves. They are reflected within us.

There are times to grow, times to bloom, times to harvest and times to rest.

When we reconnect with these rhythms, we begin to remember that we too are nature.

So while I have a deep love for the mystery and magic of Samhain, I choose to honour it when autumn arrives here in Australia.

And right now?

I am celebrating Beltane. The fire of life. The wildness of spring. The beauty of creation and the magic of becoming. 🌸🔥

Of course, there is nothing wrong with enjoying Halloween! But I believe there is something deeply meaningful about remembering where we are on the Earth and honouring the seasons we are actually living through.

Perhaps the greatest magic is simply remembering that we belong to the Earth, not the other way around.

Blessed Beltane. 🌿✨

A Invitation to Journey Deeper 🌿

Just as the Earth moves through her seasons, so do we.

There are times in our lives when we feel called to grow, to release, to rediscover ourselves or simply to pause and listen to the quiet wisdom within.

Through spiritual mentoring, holistic counselling, intuitive guidance and restorative healing, I offer a nurturing space for you to explore these transitions, reconnect with your authentic nature and remember the wisdom that has always lived within you.

If something in these words has stirred something within you, perhaps this is your invitation to explore a little deeper.

I would love to walk alongside you.
